It is always interesting when fueds develop between neighbors. We don't have one, but it might be developing. The people we have on one side are usually nice and easy to get along with, until summer hits and the fire pits come out. Then they will walk up the street to find out who's burning and tell them it's illegal and call the cops on them.
There are only a few problems with this. First and most important, it's NOT illegal. My husband and I have looked it up a couple of times to be sure that it was legal. The other part is that they have never asked us to put it out. Nick thinks the way I do most times and any passive-agressive behavior does not get rewarded.
So this weekend Nick had his fire pit going while he was working in the backyard, getting it cleaned up and such. When the fire marshal neighbor yelled, over the fence, at him about burning leaves. Leaves? No leaves, just wood. Then he yells about how we burn all the time and it's a health hazard. Ok new one, Nick pointed out that had anyone asked us to put it out we would have and if anyone had a health condition that the fire made worse we wouldn't if we knew about it. But the creme de la creme came when he threatened Nick with "Tomorrow I'm calling the state fire marshall and reporting you. Your burning days are over!" Is there a state fire marshal?
So there begins a possible fued with our neighbors, but at least we're not the only ones, we're just closest to him.
